Tim Minchin is a very funny guy…

…and quite a romantic, if you ask me. =)

Pomplamoose cover Angry Birds theme

The wonderful Pomplamoose, an indie duo and Youtube darlings from San Francisco, have covered the Angry Birds theme in adorable fashion. If you liked this song, check out their Youtube channel.

Mono: beautiful post-rock from Japan

I’ve fallen in love with the music of Mono, a Japanese post-rock band. Their beautiful and intricate compositions, filled with layered guitar melodies, make me drift. Listening to their music brings me some 10/12 years back, when I started listening to post-rock via the brilliant Sigur Rós. It was a total discovery for me, and Mono are bringing that sense of new that I felt with the first impressions of Ágætis byrjun. Below is Battle to Heaven, my favourite song from their latest release Hymn to the Immortal Wind. I hope you’ll enjoy.

Oceansize (1998-2011)

What is a person supposed to do when their favourite band splits? I’ve been trying to deal with this since yesterday afternoon when Oceansize, a (unfortunately) relatively unknown band from Manchester announced they won’t be making any more new music. I feel devastated. When today’s music world is dominated by unbearable (and indistinguishable) pop-crap, it’s getting increasingly harder for Artists (with capital A) to stand out and actually make music with added value. Oceansize were one of those bands.

I really don’t know what to write. I wanted to write a beautiful post, with references to their greatest songs, and poetic descriptions of their sound, as they deserve, but I’m incapable of doing anything like it right now. I’m too fucking pissed off at the music world for it. After a couple of weeks where I enjoyed new work from Radiohead and Mogwai, two of my favourite bands, it feels like a punishment to lose these guys. All I can do right now is hope that their future projects will have at least a spark of the brilliance they achieved as Oceansize. Godspeed!

I may be paranoid, but not an android

…what’s thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?…

(I may be paranoid, but no android)

…rain down, come on rain down, on me…

…from a great height…

A musical recommendation: Oceansize

O seu quarto álbum, Self Preserved While The Bodies Float Up, será lançado em Setembro. A música dos Oceansize navega entre extremos, entre etérea a agressiva, envolvendo-nos em rendilhados delicadamente construídos, para nos rebentar nas mãos como uma bomba. Para quem gosta de rock é uma banda a não perder.
